Retail and service businesses form the main economy of Belmont, but there is also some light industry. Shopping areas include the central business/civic district with many retail and service shops and restaurants.
The Belmont Plaza Shopping Center located north of Ralston Avenue on
El Camino Real has a wonderful variety of retail stores, services and eating places. Carlmont Village Shopping Center located on Alameda de Las Pulgas at Ralston was built in
1957/59 and has been expanded several times over the years. The center has retained its quaint village atmosphere with 31 stores and services and 19 professional offices.
